Dr. Shafaat Ahmed Bazaz, a distinguished academic and researcher, recently joined Beaconhouse National University (BNU) as the Dean of the School of Computer & IT, bringing extensive experience from academia and industry to his new role. Previously, he served as Director of the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) and Advisor to the Faculty of Engineering & Technology at Superior University, Lahore, where he was instrumental in transforming it into a leading research and development (R&D) organization with a focus on innovation and commercialization. At Sir Syed CASE Institute of Technology, Islamabad, as Founding Vice Chancellor and Professor, he introduced world-class academic programs in engineering, computing, business, and management, and managed the institute’s finances during challenging times while securing substantial research funding. Before his tenure at Sir Syed CASE Institute of Technology, Dr. Bazaz was a Foreign Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science & Engineering at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI), where he made significant contributions to MEMS research and established research labs. His industrial experience includes roles such as Senior Staff Scientist at the Canadian Microelectronics Corporation, managing MEMS programs, and Assistant Professor at Denmark Technical University, focusing on microsystems modeling and simulation. Dr. Bazaz’s strong collaboration with industry and academic institutions, both locally and internationally, includes developing syringe pumps for intensive care units and software tools for medical diagnostics. He has secured numerous research grants for pioneering projects in MEMS technology and healthcare, such as a MEMS gravimeter, high-resolution nano-g MEMS accelerometer, and indigenous automatic syringe pumps for COVID-19 patients. Dr. Bazaz is widely recognized for his academic research, with numerous publications in prestigious journals and presentations at international conferences. He has also served as an evaluator and reviewer for various academic and research institutions and has held leadership positions, including General Secretary of the Islamabad Chapter of the All Private Universities Association of Pakistan (APSUP). Dr. Shafaat Ahmed Bazaz brings a rich blend of academic expertise, industry experience, and leadership skills to his role at BNU, poised to significantly contribute to the institution's growth and development.

Prof. Dr. Amra RazaDean

Prof. Dr. Amra Raza

Prof. Dr. Amra Raza holds the distinction of being the first PhD in English from the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of the Punjab, Lahore. She has served as both the Director of the Institute of English Studies and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities AT PU. Currently, Dr. Raza is the Chair of the Punjab Examination Commission (PEC) and Country Head of Englishers (LLL) International. Her academic expertise includes South Asian Poetry, Shakespearean Studies, Post-colonial Drama and Fiction, Creative Writing, TESL, ELT, and Linguistics. She has been awarded the prestigious national Jane Townsend Poetry Prize and serves as the Editor of Spaces and Places: An Anthology of Young Creative Writers from Pakistan and Co-editor of Voices and Visions: Young Writers from Pakistan. Her research articles and poems have been published both nationally and internationally, and she has held the position of Chief Editor for the Journal of Research in Humanities, IES. Dr. Raza has also secured HEC grants for the In-service Training of English Language Teachers in Punjab and has conducted HEC-sponsored workshops, including "Teaching Composition Writing Strategies" and "Using Indigenous Literature for English Language Instruction at the Undergraduate Level" at the University of the Punjab,Lahore. She participated in an HEC-funded workshop on the ELTR Phase II Research Project, focusing on CALL in ELT. Additionally, she is a recipient of the International Erasmus+ Grant, completing her training at USAK University in Turkey.

Prof. Rashid RanaDean

Prof. Rashid Rana

Recipient of the Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2022, Rashid Rana is widely considered to be one of the leading artists of his generation in South Asia. He emerged as the creator of an entirely new kind of art from Pakistan at the start of the century. Notable for his ideas, imagery, and pictorial strategies, Rashid Rana has exhibited extensively at various galleries and museums globally. His works are in various public and private collections, including the British Museum in London, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Fukuoka Museum of Art in Japan, and the Saatchi Collection in London. He is the recipient of the prestigious Game-Changer Asia Art Award and was awarded International Artist of the Year by SAVAC Canada in 2003. Primarily known for his art practice, Rashid Rana occupies multiple simultaneous roles. He mediates between artist, curator, and academic with a common thread of an unfixed and non-prescriptive view of geography and identity. He is a founding faculty member and currently the Dean of the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts & Design at BNU, Lahore.

Professor Salima Hashmi

A recipient of the Pride of Performance Award in 1999, Prof. Salima Hashmi is an internationally renowned Pakistani artist, writer, art historian, art curator and educationist. She taught at National College of Arts for 31 years before working as its principal for four years. She is one of the key persons who founded Beaconhouse National University and School of Visual Arts and Design. She is a reputed painter whose works have been exhibited in Pakistan and in international exhibitions. She has written extensively on the arts, and has curated exhibitions of contemporary art and traditional textile.

Prof. Risham Hosain SyedHead of Department

Prof. Risham Hosain Syed

Risham Syed is a visual artist who currently heads the Visual Arts Department at the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts & Design, Beaconhouse National University, Lahore, Pakistan. Risham has a diverse art practice in which painting and other mediums are employed to explore questions of history and politics. Her native city plays a pivotal role in her work, as do related inquiries into what the colonial history of the region means to today’s global south. She explores these questions using her paintings as pieces of a greater, often global context through installation and engages objects, borders, margins, frames with social reference and connotation. Her use of fabric, embroidery, found objects, along with her paintings, speaks about her connection with the personal, as well as the historical, weaving in history with the present moment. Risham has shown extensively in major national and international exhibitions, including the Manchester Art Gallery, ABRAAJ Capital Art Prize, Dubai, Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, Asia Pacific Triennial Brisbane, Hangzhou Triennial of Fiber Art, China, Mohatta Palace Museum, Karachi, National Gallery of Art, Islamabad, National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai, Harris Museum, Preston, Barbican Centre, London, and the Fukuoka Triennial, Japan. Ms. Risham is the recipient of the prestigious ABRAAJ Capital Art Prize (2012). Her works are part of important public and private collections. Her recent projects include a solo show at Manchester Art Gallery in Manchester, where her work conversed with the permanent collection of 18th and 19th-century paintings. Risham is a graduate of the National College of Arts, Lahore, and holds an MA from the Royal College of Art, London.

Prof. Kiran Farooq Khan

Kiran Khan is a professor and head of the Textile, Fashion, and Accessories Department at MDSVAD. She initially earned a Bachelor of Design from the National College of Arts in Lahore, specializing in textiles. Her thesis, titled 'The World Beyond the Senses,' was awarded a distinction. Additionally, she received the prestigious Percy Brown Award for Art History and two gold medals for her performances as part of the NCA puppet team, known as The Puppeteers NCA. She then joined the Pakistan School of Fashion Design (PSFD), now PIFD, where she taught for eight years and developed the textile curriculum. During her tenure at PIFD, she pursued further studies in textile design, accessories, and fashion drawing from La Chambre Syndicale De la Couture, France. She was also selected by JETRO, the Japanese External Trade Organization, for further training at Bunka College of Fashion, Tokyo.She joined BNU in 2004 and established the textile design department, where she has been for 16 years since its inception. She has received training in the conservation of textiles and completed her Master’s Degree in Linguistics from BNU in 2014, which she believes is an essential link between language and arts. She feels that 'all textiles convey a different story, and it is through language that we understand this story.' The Department of Textiles is actively engaged in craft revival and was awarded the esteemed international Mac Jannet Prize by the Tallories Network for a community craft Project called the 'Humnawa Project,' in collaboration with Sungi and Bunyaad under the Punjab Skills Development Programme, to empower women in Southern Punjab. She developed a curriculum on 'Innovative Design' for empowering rural women, a joint venture with Kaarvan Craft Foundation. This project with Kaarvan Craft Foundation follows the same structural model as 'Humnawa,' whereby 1600 women will be trained in clusters. The curriculum designed will serve as a template to provide exposure and encourage innovative thinking for all underserved craft practitioners in South East Asia.She was Artist in Residence at Art Address, Oakville, Ontario, Canada, in July 2018. She also designs for the textile sector and has developed designs for Mausummery Lawn, Sitara Textiles, and Five Star Lawn. She runs her personal Embellishment Design Studio, engaging local embroidery craftsmen and developing custom-made hand-embroidered textiles.

Aarish Sardar is a design educator and interdisciplinary creative practitioner. He holds a BFA in Fine Arts (2000) and an MA in Multimedia Arts (2003) from the National College of Arts, Lahore. Aarish pursued his MA in Communication Design from Kingston University London (2006) after gaining several years of experience as an Associate Producer at GEO TV Lahore. Currently, he teaches at the Dept. of Visual Communication Design in the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts & Design at Beaconhouse National University (BNU), Lahore. Aarish has completed limited modules of the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ – Level 3) UK, namely Children Safeguarding, and National Open College Networks (NOCN) UK in Communication & Conflict Management.Aarish has worked as a communication designer and multimedia consultant internationally, serving clients from the USA, UK, Pakistan, and beyond, including Sophia Learning, Autograph ABP, Hulton Archives (Getty Images), DFID UK, Linge Roset, Eugene Dodd Typographics (EDT), Woolpack Inn, Hamptons of London, Aconflag Group Europe, and Salt’n’Pepper Restaurants (PAK/UK), among others. He took training in Acting at Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU) under the Erasmus Exchange Program. He has published articles in New Theatre Quarterly (2024), THAAP journals (2016 and 2017), and a chapter in From Tsiam to the Hindu Kush: Kalasha People and their Culture (THAAP and UNESCO, 2019). His extensive practice-based work with the folk performers of Punjab - including storytellers, actors, theatre makers, dancers, and musicians - contributed to UNESCO’s study on the promotion of ICH into the school curriculum in the Asia-Pacific region. Mr. Ahsan Fazal

Ahsan Fazal, a graduate of the National College of Arts, has contributed significantly to academia and creative industries. Over nearly a decade, he has observed, designed, and delivered Studio and Theory courses at the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design. His role involves developing course content and conducting ongoing research to enhance the curriculum. Throughout his academic career, he has conducted extensive research on materials, form, and techniques. Additionally, he has excelled in administrative responsibilities and showcased his talents as a set designer and writer for music videos, short films, and theatrical productions.

Prof. Dr. Tariq Rahman

Prof. Dr. Tariq Rahman got his first doctorate in English literature from the University of Sheffield in 1985. Subsequently he got interested in language politics in Pakistan and took the degree of linguistics from the University of Strathclyde in 1989. After this he wrote the books which have made him an authority on the linguistic history of the Muslims of South Asia namely Language and Politics in Pakistan (1996); Language, Ideology and Power: language-learning among the Muslims of Pakistan and North India (2002) and From Hindi to Urdu: a Social and Political History (2011). Besides these and other books he has published about a 100 articles in scholarly journals contributed entries to encyclopedias and chapters to edited books. On examination of his published work the University of Sheffield conferred a higher doctorate (D.Litt) on him in 2014. He was the first Pakistani to be honoured by one of Germany’s highest awards for academic research called the Humboldt Research Award. The National Institute of Pakistan Studies at The Quaid-i-Azam University, where he served most of his life and of which he was director (2007-2011), made him a professor emeritus in 2010 and the Higher Education Commission (Islamabad) conferred upon him the title of Distinguished National Professor in 2004 and also gave him the lifetime achievement award in 2009. The President of Pakistan conferred upon him the Pride of Performance in 2004 and the Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2013. He was a Senior Fulbright Fellow at the University of Texas at Austin (1995-96) and the first incumbent of the Pakistan Chair at the University of California, Berkeley (2004-05). He was also a research fellow at the Oxford Centre of Islamic Studies (2010) and a fellow at the University of Heidelberg several times from 2010 till 2012. He has been a visiting professor in Denmark and Spain and has lectured or read out papers in conferences in Korea, Nepal, China, the USA, Singapore, Thailand, India, Denmark, France, Germany, the UK, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Switzerland. He is presently working as Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and Acting Dean, School of Education, Beaconhouse National University, Lahore.

Ms. Amna Rafiq

Ms. Amna earned her undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore. She continued her academic journey by attending the Virginia Tech Graduate School, where she pursued studies in Computer Science & Applications while also serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. In 2015, Ms. Amna participated in the Women's Institute in Summer Enrichment (WISE) program, sponsored by the Team for Research in Ubiquitous Secure Technology (TRUST) at the University of California, Berkeley. Her academic achievements were recognized when she was awarded the Best Performance Gold Medal as Esena Foundation's Star Student in 2005.

Mr. Ubaidullah Azeem earned his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from NUST, SEECS Islamabad. Currently, he is pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science at LUMS, focusing on areas such as Deep Learning and Computer Vision. Additionally, he has a strong interest in Generative AI and Language Models.
