Dr. Sunnya Khan, Assistant Professor at BNU’s School of Education, holds a PhD from the University of Toronto (OISE). Her research explores expressive writing, multimodal literacy, and inclusive pedagogy. With teaching, research, and leadership experience in Canada and Pakistan, she is committed to advancing equity, creativity, and belonging in education.
Dr. Sunnya Khan has joined the School of Education at Beaconhouse National University as an Assistant Professor, bringing with her a rich academic and professional background shaped by global research, teaching, and community engagement. She earned her PhD in Curriculum and Pedagogy from the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), where she also completed her Master’s in Educational Leadership and Policy and later pursued a postdoctoral fellowship with the Northern Oral Language and Writing through Play Project. Her scholarship bridges education, expressive writing, and holistic learning, with a particular emphasis on identity, transformation, and transcultural pedagogies.
Dr. Khan’s research has been published in leading journals, including the Holistic Education Review and Global Comparative Education (GCE) Journal. She has contributed book reviews, research reports, and creative works, and is currently working on several forthcoming projects, including a book chapter on expressive writing in nature and a poetry collection that explores language, identity, and belonging. Her work demonstrates a unique commitment to integrating academic rigor with creativity, drawing upon poetic inquiry and multimodal writing as transformative educational tools.
In addition to her research, Dr. Khan brings extensive teaching and professional experience. She has taught expressive writing at the National College of Arts in Lahore, developed online curricula for eCampus Ontario, and served in numerous academic, administrative, and research capacities at OISE, including as Managing Editor for the NOW Play publication series. Her international exposure includes presenting her master’s thesis at the World Council of Comparative Education Societies Conference in Mexico and original research at the Holistic Teaching and Learning Conference hosted by Southern Oregon University.
Beyond academia, Dr. Khan has actively contributed to student engagement, environmental education initiatives, and community projects, reflecting her holistic approach to education. She has worked across diverse educational settings in Canada and Pakistan, from primary schools to higher education institutions, and has been recognized with multiple fellowships and awards for her contributions to research and leadership. At BNU, Dr. Khan looks forward to advancing critical, creative, and inclusive approaches to teaching, research, and learning while mentoring the next generation of educators and scholars.
