Prof. Rashid Rana, a prominent new media artist, has received the International Artist of the Year and Game Changer Asia Art Award. He holds the record for the most expensive artwork sold by a Pakistani artist and was the first living artist to have a solo survey exhibition at the Muse Guimet, Paris. Featured in The Treasures of the World exhibit at the National Museum of Singapore, his works are in renowned collections like the British Museum and Metropolitan Museum.

Bio

Widely considered to be most original and prominent artist working in South Asia today, Rashid Rana lives, works and teaches in Lahore, Pakistan. He emerged in the early years of this century as the most energetic and productive representative of an entirely new kind of art from Pakistan. His works are in various public and private collections including the British Museum London, Metropolitan Museum NewYork, Fukuoka Museum of Art, Japan and Saatchi Collection, London.

Rashid Rana is the recipient of the prestigious Game Changer Asia Art Award, the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, a prestigious civilian honour conferred by the President of Pakistan, and was also awarded International Artist of the Year by SAVAC Canada in 2003. His work for the Pakistan Pavilion exterior at the World Expo 2020 (21) Dubai garnered international recognition, taking home the Burj CEO Award for Best Pavilion Exterior Design.

Distinct for his ideas, imagery and pictorial strategies, Rashid Rana has worked in dramatically different modes, such as paintings, stainless steel sculptures, video installation, photo-sculptures and photo mosaics. Primarily known for his art practice, Rashid Rana occupies multiple simultaneous profiles. He mediates between artist, curator, educator and visionary. He has contributed to the art academia for last 25 years and taught at various institutions including National College of Arts and Lahore and Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design, Lahore. He is a founding faculty member and currently Dean of the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design at BNU, Lahore. His presence and involvement in art academia in Pakistan has inspired his students and guided them to explore new venues in art and culture. In addition to his teaching at BNU, Rashid Rana has lectured and presented his work extensively at seminars, conferences, art colleges and inauguration of exhibitions worldwide.
