Dr. Shafaat Ahmed Bazaz, an acclaimed academic and researcher, has joined BNU as Dean of the School of Computer & IT. With a track record in pioneering R&D, leading innovative MEMS projects, and transforming institutions, his arrival promises to advance BNU’s academic excellence and research impact.
Prof. Dr. Shafaat Ahmed Bazaz, the Dean of the School of Computer and Information Technology at Beaconhouse National University (BNU), is a distinguished academic with a Ph.D. in IT & Automation Systems from the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA) Toulouse, France. He completed his Master’s in Controls & Automation from Université de Franche Comté, Besançon, France.
With 25 years of experience spanning academia and industry, Dr. Shafaat has held pivotal roles, including founding Vice Chancellor, Dean, and Professor at Sir Syed CASE Institute of Technology, Islamabad. He played a key role in establishing its campus and obtaining the federal degree-awarding charter. His leadership extended to Superior University, Lahore, where he served as Director of the Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC), Advisor to the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, and Founding Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research & Innovation. He has also contributed to the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) as a Foreign Professor under Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) Foreign Faculty Hiring Program, and acted as Dean of the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Science.
Dr. Shafaat’s global academic experience includes serving as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada. He worked as Senior Staff Scientist at CMC Microsystems in Canada, where he developed chip design, fabrication, and testing services for 22 Canadian universities in the areas of MEMS and Microfluidics. Furthermore, he contributed to the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) as a Research Assistant Professor, supervising CAD for MEMS projects funded by the Denmark Technical Research Council.
Throughout his career, Dr. Shafaat has been awarded significant research grants totaling over Rs 150 million from organizations such as the Pakistan Science Foundation, HEC, and Ignite R&D Fund. His research focuses on artificial intelligence-based commercial software for eye diagnostics, hospital management, chip design, accelerometers, and gyroscopes. He has authored more than 70 research papers published in prestigious international journals and conferences, further solidifying his position as a leading expert in his field.
Supervised the thesis of 7 PhD and 28 MSc students from various prestigious institutions across Pakistan, who are now holding senior positions at reputable organizations worldwide.
