Razia Hassan School of Architecture (RHSA)
Omar Hassan, a registered architect with PCATP, holds degrees from RISD, NCA, and Punjab University. As Design Principal of Oh+A Designworks, he has led major projects in education, retail, and hospitality. He is Director Faculty at BNU’s RHSA, a founding member of the Institute for Experimental Construction, and an esteemed academic.
Omar Hassan is a registered architect with the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP) under Registration # A-03552. He holds a Master’s in Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design (1999), a Bachelor of Design from the National College of Arts (1995), and a Bachelor of Arts from Punjab University (1990). His academic and professional background has made him a pivotal figure in the architectural landscape of Pakistan.
As the Design Principal of Oh+A Designworks since 2004, Omar Hassan has led numerous projects across the education, retail, corporate, hospitality, and housing sectors. His work includes institutional projects such as the Coca-Cola Headquarters, Descon Engineering Headquarters, and Sapphire Retail Headquarters in Lahore. His contributions to the educational sector include Beaconhouse Newlands School, Namal College, and various projects at Aitchison College. In hospitality and retail, he has designed prominent projects such as the Ambiance Hotel in Lahore, Himmel Hotel in Skardu, and Nishat Linen Retail Stores across the Middle East.
Prior to founding Oh+A Designworks, Omar Hassan worked as a Project Architect at Wood + Zapata in Boston from 2001 to 2004. During this time, he contributed to high-profile international projects, including the Chicago Bears Stadium at Soldier Field Park and the Xintiandi Commercial District in Shanghai. He also worked as an Architectural Designer at William Wilson Associated Architects from 1999 to 2001, where he was involved in major projects for Vanderbilt University and Harvard University.
In academia, Omar Hassan has been a cornerstone of the Razia Hassan School of Architecture at BNU, serving as Associate Professor since 2006 and as Director Faculty since 2023. He is also a founding member of the Institute for Experimental Construction at RHSA. His dedication to education and mentorship has earned him prestigious accolades, including the Spirit of Service Award (2024) and the Dedication in Service Award (2023) from BNU. He has also played a significant role in Pakistan’s architectural discourse, serving on the Prime Minister’s Committee on National Heritage and Culture from 2019 to 2022 and as an external thesis juror at major institutions like NCA, IVS, and NUST.
Omar Hassan’s work has been featured in multiple publications, including GA Houses and ADA. He has also contributed scholarly articles, such as Form Follows Function – The Lahore MCB Building by Nayyer Ali Dada and Associates (ADA, 2009). His professional affiliations include serving on the Advisory Board of The New School (TNS) and the Board of Governors of the Gurmani Foundation.
As Director Faculty of RHSA at BNU, Omar Hassan continues to influence the future of architecture through his leadership, teaching, and practice.
