Bio

Ghulam Mohammad is a distinguished visual artist from Kachi, Balochistan, Pakistan. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) with distinction from Beaconhouse National University (BNU), Lahore, on a UMISAA scholarship in 2013. During his undergraduate studies, he was selected for the British Council’s Inspire Trip, a student exchange program at the University of Central Lancashire. He later pursued a Master’s in Art Education from BNU, graduating in 2017.

His artistic practice revolves around the exploration of language and identity within cultural, historical, and contemporary contexts. Ghulam Mohammad is known for his intricate collages, meticulously crafted from paper cuttings of Urdu and other local scripts sourced from old, discarded books. These delicate compositions are pasted onto Wasli paper, often incorporating handwritten text, gold and silver leaf embellishments, and Iranian ink.

He has exhibited widely in both solo and group exhibitions and has participated in artist residencies at the UAE Art Hub and Sanat Karachi. His contributions to the art world have earned him significant recognition. In 2015, he won the Young Emerging Artist Prize at the Lahore Literary Festival. A year later, he became the first Pakistani artist to win the prestigious Jameel Art Prize 4 from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

Beyond his artistic practice, Ghulam Mohammad has served as a jury member for esteemed art competitions. He was a judge at the Bahrain Annual Fine Art Exhibition in 2017 and a jury member for Jameel Art Prize 5 at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2018.

Currently, he is an Assistant Professor in the Fine Arts Department at Beaconhouse National University, Lahore, where he continues to inspire and mentor emerging artists.
