Saman Malik is an architect and urban designer currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the Razia Hassan School of Architecture, Beaconhouse National University (BNU), Lahore. A graduate of BNU with honors in Architecture, she went on to pursue her Master’s in Architectural Studies in Urban Design from the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow, on an international postgraduate scholarship. Her academic journey reflects her deep-rooted passion for the built environment, particularly shaped by her upbringing in the historically and culturally vibrant city of Lahore.
Saman's professional philosophy is grounded in a strong commitment to urban regeneration, with a focus on context-sensitive design that responds to the socio-economic needs of the city. Her work reflects a desire to contribute meaningfully to Lahore’s evolving urban fabric, both through architectural practice and academic engagement. At BNU, she teaches fourth-year design studios, coordinates academic planning, and advises thesis students, particularly in areas relating to urban transformation and public space design.
In addition to her academic work, Saman has extensive experience in architectural and interior design. She has worked on a range of projects including the regeneration of the River Clyde in Glasgow, the redesign of Lahore’s public bus stops (for which she won a competition organized by the Lahore Biennale Foundation), and design development for institutional and residential projects across Pakistan. Her earlier roles at COMSATS and private architectural firms enriched her expertise in curriculum development, workshop coordination, and client-based architectural solutions.
Her contributions to research include papers presented and published with AMPS in 2022 and 2023, as well as a presentation at the Institute of Architects Pakistan in 2019. Licensed by the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners since 2012, Saman continues to actively bridge the gap between theory and practice, mentoring students while working toward a more inclusive and responsive architectural discourse in Pakistan.
