Prof. Rashid Rana, Dean of the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design (MDSVAD) and UNESCO Chairholder for Inclusion through Art, has been invited to participate in the 9th International Festival of Contemporary Art of Algeria, where he is presenting his acclaimed work Meeting Point (2006), a seminal multimedia projection that engages viewers in a thoughtful exploration of perception, temporality, anticipation, and uncertainty.
His exhibited work, Meeting Point (2006), is a multimedia projection featuring two identical images of airplanes seemingly moving toward one another. The perceived motion, however, is an illusion, rendering the anticipated collision impossible. The work immerses viewers in a state of imagination and suspense, inviting reflection through sustained anticipation of action and inaction.
The 9th edition of the festival, titled Beyond Boundaries, seeks to dismantle conventional divides across cultures and disciplines, reaffirming art’s capacity—through its symbolic depth and expressive power—to inspire critical dialogue and positive social change. Serving as a meeting ground for ideas, artists, and cultures, the festival was officially inaugurated on 29 November and is currently underway in Algiers.
