On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, the Institute of Psychology at BNU hosted an insightful session titled “Understanding the Inner World of the Psyche.” The talk introduced students to Internal Family Systems Therapy and was delivered by institute alumna Sehrish Haroon, a PhD student in Spirituality and Psychotherapy from Canada.
A compelling highlight of the session was a live demonstration of “parts work” with a client, offering participants a rare opportunity to observe the practical application of Internal Family Systems (IFS) techniques in real time. Through this experiential segment, attendees witnessed how different inner “parts” can be identified and engaged within a therapeutic framework to facilitate emotional understanding and healing.
The session also explored the relationship between the IFS concept of the Self and broader spiritual perspectives, encouraging thoughtful reflection on how psychological growth can align with deeper spiritual awareness and connection with God. By introducing students to a widely practiced, trauma-informed psychotherapy model, the session fostered meaningful dialogue around self-awareness, empathy, and culturally responsive therapeutic practice.
