Beaconhouse National University’s final-year project, Raqs-e-Ravi, has been shortlisted as a finalist for the prestigious Best Student SDG Project Award at the QS ImpACT Awards 2026. Selected from over 1,300 global applications, the virtual reality initiative created by BS Immersive Media students showcases BNU’s commitment to driving environmental awareness through cutting-edge technology.
Developed by Ramish Mahmood, Rana Ammar, and Zeeshan Ismail Israr (Class of '26), Raqs-e-Ravi (راوی میں چھپی کہانی) immerses users in the narrative of the River Ravi across four distinct timelines. The VR journey traverses the river's historic roots during the Mughal era, its deep connection with the vibrant life of Androon Lahore, its present polluted reality, and a potential future the city must actively choose. A compelling flood simulation allows viewers to experience the impact of floodplain construction firsthand by placing them directly within the rising waters.
The project has already garnered significant community attention and recognition beyond the university campus. Last month, WWF-Pakistan featured Raqs-e-Ravi at their exhibition booth during The Rivers Remember event at Alhamra Art Centre, drawing enthusiastic crowds. The immersive experience deeply moved visitors, with attendees spending up to twenty-five minutes exploring the virtual environment and advocating for the interactive tool to be introduced across schools worldwide.
