Professor Risham Syed, Head of the Fine Arts Department at the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design (MDSVAD), BNU, was invited as the Frere Hall South Asian Artist-in-Residence at the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford. She was selected through a highly competitive nomination process, recognizing her contribution to contemporary South Asian art and practice.
The residency, designed for South Asia-based artists, provided Professor Syed the opportunity to engage with the Ashmolean’s renowned Eastern Art collections. Over the course of a month, she explored and reflected upon works that connect histories and cultures across the region and beyond, further enriching her artistic practice and academic vision.
