The School of Education’s MPhil Educational Leadership and Management (ELM) program hosted a research seminar titled “Inclusion for Impact: Transformation, not Tokenism” on June 20, 2025.
Bringing together students and experts, the seminar explored how inclusion can move beyond symbolic gestures to create meaningful change. It began with a keynote by Professor Kiran Farooq Khan (Head, Textile, Fashion and Accessory Design, BNU), who shared visuals of her award-winning craft-based project promoting social inclusion. MPhil ELM Semester 2 students presented research addressing key educational challenges with practical recommendations. Expert panelists included Dr. Sajeela Haroon (Manager SEN, Beaconhouse) urging a rethink of ability, disability, and inclusion with practical tips; Ms. Rohma Khan (Head, IEDA, BNU) explained how Interdisciplinary Expanded Design and Arts create new knowledge by bringing inclusion through art; and Ms. Saira Munsaf (Psychotherapist, Voice of Wellbeing) discussing bias and self-reflection, stressing that inclusion is shaped by experiences and feelings. The seminar concluded with a thank you note from Dr. Shahbaz Khan (Program Head, ELM, School of Education) followed by the distribution of certificates and BNU mementos.
