On May 21, 2025, the Mariam Dawood School of Visual Arts and Design (MDSVAD) welcomed acclaimed artist Beate Terfloth for an inspiring guest lecture. Terfloth, former Professor of Drawing and Printmaking at Mozarteum University, Salzburg, shared insights into her conceptual and spatial approach to drawing through an engaging session titled Drawing and Territory.
Terfloth discussed how her sculptural sensibility informs her drawing practice, emphasizing the influence of cultural context on her understanding of form and space. Through visual examples and personal reflections, she explored themes such as repetition, place-making, and the role of memory in creative processes, offering students a unique lens into contemporary artistic methodologies. The talk concluded with a lively Q&A session, during which students and faculty engaged Terfloth in thought-provoking dialogue about the boundaries between disciplines, the evolving nature of artistic inquiry, and the ways artists navigate physical and conceptual territories. The event enriched the academic environment and fostered meaningful exchange within the MDSVAD community.
