Rising from Adversity to Achieve Architectural Dreams

We are proud to share the inspiring journey of Vineth Kumar, a graduate of the Razia Hassan School of Architecture at Beaconhouse National University (BNU). Vineth's story is a testament to resilience, determination, and the transformative power of education.

Growing up in a small, low-caste Hindu community in Karachi, Vineth lived in a British-era servant quarter with a limestone brick structure. This unique environment profoundly influenced him from a young age. He spent his childhood coloring at home and in the temple, while his schooling at St. Paul English High School and St. Patrick’s Technical School further inspired his passion for architecture. Vineth enjoyed solitary moments in nature, observing his surroundings and fueling his curiosity about materials and the natural world. He often sketched live scenes during his free time, honing his artistic skills. Vineth's early exposure to architecture came from a part-time job as a tea maker in an architecture firm. There, he became fascinated with architectural drawings and learned about the field during his spare time. In 2014, he received training in live sketching and drafting, which expanded his knowledge and solidified his passion for architecture. Despite financial challenges, Vineth remained determined to pursue higher education. While completing his intermediate studies at a government college, he decided to apply to university. With only three thousand rupees, he chose to apply for the entry test at Beaconhouse National University. Vineth was accepted into the architecture program with a 50% scholarship, but he still faced difficulties affording the remaining fees. At a crucial moment, Dr. Gulzar, his Dean, offered him a check with the option to either return home or pay his tuition fees. Vineth chose to invest in his education, and soon after, he secured an internship at the university, which helped cover his educational expenses. He expresses profound gratitude to his vice-chancellors, director, dean, and teachers who supported him throughout his academic journey. Vineth's remarkable journey from a small community in Karachi to a prestigious university demonstrates the power of perseverance and the importance of having a supportive community. Now a graduate of BNU and a successful architect, Vineth has secured a job at Promag, a renowned architecture firm in Karachi. Vineth Kumar's story is a shining example of what can be achieved through hard work, dedication, and the unwavering support of those who believe in you. We celebrate his success and wish him continued achievements in his architectural career.
