MoU Signing Ceremony for Establishment of China Studies Chair

Beaconhouse National University (BNU) hosted a momentous ceremony on April 28, 2024, where a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the objective of establishing a China Studies Chair. Minister of Education of the Government of Punjab Hon. Rana Sikandar Hayat was the Chief Guest at this occasion. The MoU was signed by the Consul General of China in Lahore H.E. Zhao Shiren and BNU Vice Chancellor Dr. Moeed Yusuf. The MoU outlines a programme of collaboration between Chinese universities and thintanks and the BNU in the field of academics and research and to promote a better understanding of China-Pakistan interaction in these areas. Minister Sikandar Hayat appreciated the initiative for expnding collaboration between Pakistan and China in academics, research and exchanges involving student, faculties and intellectuals. He thanked the Chine Consul General for Chinese government’s support and efforts for increasing cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields. The Consul General of China in Lahore reaffirmed China’s commitment for strengthening interaction with Pakistan particularly in the areas of education and research. To implement this MoU Beaconhouse Center for Policy Research (BCPR) in collaboration with Chinese Consulate in Lahore will organize a number of activities during a one year programme. The categories of various activities include: Developing institutional linkages and partnerships between the Chinese universities and think tanks and the BNU in research collaboration and student exchanges. Conducting on regular basis research and publications on various aspects of Pakistan- China relationship. Organizing Seminars, Workshops, Panel Discussions on themes relating to Pakistan- China relations. Arranging Lectures at BNU under a Distinguished Lecture Series inviting leading policy makers, opinion shapers, experts, intellectuals and youth from Pakistan and China on key areas of bilateral relations and cooperation. In recent years, BNU has already developed a programme on Chinese language. Under this collaboration, the BNU would offer a course on Chinese Studies at the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS), BNU including a focus on Pakistan-China relations.
