Over the years, mass media has come a long way from printed news-sheets to present day electronic media including online and computer technologies for communicating ideas, opinions and information to the general public and specialized audience. In this era of globalization, media has acquired more importance because of its role in producing and mediating cultures, and influencing national and international affairs. The contemporary world requires media professionals who are knowledgeable, intellectually stimulated and properly trained. Keeping these requirements in mind, the SMC is providing updated knowledge of media and producing trained journalists, film makers, writers and producers, who are intellectually enhanced and technically efficient. We are preparing well rounded graduates through the integration of media with liberal and social sciences streams.
SMC is offering M.Phil, MS, MA and four years BA (Honors) programs with the variety of subjects important to the field of media and communication. The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication has so far produced more than 150 theses at the BA (Honors), MA and M.Phil level. Five PhD scholars are in the process of completing their thesis. Majority of our graduates are working in media organizations besides going abroad on foreign scholarships. The Department of Theatre, Film and Television has produced high quality film and documentaries. The faculty of SMC has constantly improved its qualifications and is at the cutting edge of its profession.
We, at SMC, believe in complete academic freedom which is necessary for quality education especially in the prevailing circumstances when in Pakistan the culture of asking questions and seeking answers to important issues in discouraged. We are committed to advancing the cause of freedom of expression, media ethics, updated knowledge and skills.
